Girls Gone Maya

BACALAR : Vacation Vibe

Approx $600 per person | 4hrs from airport | less than ideal working conditions | onsite amenities

We would stay at a boutique resort and share a room with two beds and small terrace (yes with a hammock). Wifi and AC is included in the room. This resort is terraced and on the lagoon with a small pool, dock, loungers, and bar and cafe. Breakfast is included and parking is free.

Days would be spent working from the room, swimming in the lagoon (kayaks and paddle boards available), having meals by the pool and venturing into town for dinners. Excursions would include sailing, natural lazy river, or open air cenotes around the lagoon.

Note: this resort is not adults only and is almost sold out.

TANKAH : The Digital Nomad Vibe

Approx $700 per person | 2hrs from airport | ample working space | no amenities

Tankah, a new Puebla that feels worlds away from the heart of Tulum even though it’s only 20min away. Tankah sits on a small bay on the other side of the Zona Arqueologica Tulum, giving it a secluded atmosphere. It’s waters are protected by a reef and there are cenotes near by.

In Tankah, we would rent a two bedroom apartment in an oceanfront boutique building. Each of us would have our own room and bathroom, and would share a living area, kitchen, dining, and terrace. Apartments are equipped with Wifi and AC, and parking is included. There are 3 shared pools and terraces, and only 5 units in the building.

Weekends can be sent at cenote day clubs, and beach clubs and week days would be spent working from home, venturing to Tulum for food and beverage, and relaxing on our little beach. Think quiet mornings, adventurous days, calm sunsets, and early nights. It would feel more like we lived in Tulum and less like “spring break vacation”.

One bummer: parking for dinners in Tulum will probably be a bummer. A two person scooter is an option, but requires 20min on hwy.

TULUM : Scooter Sisters

Approx $875 per person | 2hrs from airport | no workspace | no amenities

This small jungle hotel is on the “beach road” in Tulum and would allow us to walk or scooter everywhere we want to go. We would have separate rooms, each room has Wifi and AC. I would expect a lot of energy in the area, not a tranquil stay.

We would most likely hang out at Nomade and other near by beach clubs most of the time…which means spending more money on snacks and drinks.

Alternatively: we can share a condo in La Valetta for half the price! We would scooter to beach clubs and restaurants

BEST OF BOTH WORLDS :

Approx $700 per person | 4hrs from airport | less than ideal working conditions | onsite amenities

WARNING:

Although it’s not technically seagrass season in Tulum, it has been getting worse every year and there has been reports of seagrass in March the past two years. Unfortunately seagrass is a risk of the area…. but if we don’t want to risk it, Bacalar is safe!

ADDITIONAL EXPENSES:

Car $200

Scooter $100

Sailing $50-$200

and if after all that, you wonder what our best option would be on the Pacific side? We would get this two bedroom villa in San Pancho, approximately 45min-1hr from the Puerta Vallarta airport.
